Uma Tradição Lisboeta

For over 35 years, Padaria São João has been rising before dawn to bake bread the way it was meant to be made — with stone-milled flour, natural fermentation, and the patience that only a family bakery can afford. Three generations of the Ferreira family have kneaded dough in our wood-fired ovens, and our regulars can taste the difference in every crust.

Desde 1987

Padaria São João was founded by José Ferreira, a master baker from the Ribatejo region, when he moved to Lisbon with his wife Maria. What began as a tiny storefront on Rua de São João da Praça has become a beloved neighbourhood institution.

Today, José's son Paulo and granddaughter Inês carry on the tradition. We still use the same wood-fired oven, the same sourdough starter, and the same philosophy: good bread takes time, and shortcuts always show.
